Along with "The Golem" and "Sounds of the Surreal", Gary Lucas has yet a third film project where he accompanies films of the fantastic, the outre, and the macabre with appropriately nail-biting music...the project known as "Monsters from the Id".
Premiered at Brooklyn Sugar on Oct. 28th 2006, "Monsters from the Id" finds guitar madman Gary Lucas playing totally improvised solo guitar soundtracks to accompany and enhance clips from some of Gary's favorite horror and sci-fi sound films — color and black and white fever dreams such as Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby", Mario Bava's "Black Sunday", "Mothra", "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad", "Carnival of Souls", "The Brain that Wouldn't Die", the original King Kong, and more...

Infamous cinematic fleurs du mal — further coloured, shaded and illuminated by Gary Lucas' chilling and imaginative live music.

Gary made the European premiere in Vienna at Porgy and Bess in September 2007 and the Canadian premiere at Pop Montreal in October 2008.

Total running time: 30 minutes

Gary also has an X-rated version of this project, MONSTERS FROM THE ID (RATED X) that runs 75 min. where he provides live soundtracks for clips from some of his favorite transgressive films—including Vera Chytilova's "Daisies" (1966); Zulawski's "Possession" (1981), Gaspar Noe's "Enter the Void" (2009), Jess Franco's "Lorna: The Exorcist" (1974), and much more. Gary premiered this project in Kromeriz Czech Republic in Nov. 2011, and performed it again in Liberec Czech Republic in Nov. 2012.
