PROJECT HISTORY

On August 15th 2009 Gary Lucas debuted his new live program of solo guitar arrangements of famous film music at the 5th International Jecheon Film and Music Festival in South Korea.

At midnight before a rapt audience on a floating stage set in the middle of Cheongpung Lake, Gary played a midnight set that included mesmerizing and lush versions of:

Alberto Iglesias' Theme from "Sex and Lucia" (2001, d. Julio Medem)—listen to Gary's performance recorded live at the Jecheon Festival here

Florian Fricke's Theme from "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" (d. Werner Herzog, 1972)—check out a video of Gary performing this piece live plus a medley of Bernard Herrmann's Hitchock themes here

Nino Rota's Theme from "Fellini's Casanova" (1976)

Kryzystof Komeda's "Lullaby" from Polanski's 1968 shocker "Rosemary's Baby"—check out a video of Gary performing this piece live with Polish vocalist Anna Podolak here

George Gershwin's "Our Love is Here to Stay", featured in Vincente Minnelli's "An American in Paris" (1951)—check out a video of Gary performing this piece on the Laura Flanders Show here

Leigh Harline's Theme from "The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao" (d. George Pal, 1964)

"Mancineaste", a medley of themes from great Henry Mancini-scored films, including "The Pink Panther" (d. Blake Edwards, 1963) and "Hatari!" (d. Howard Hawks, 1962)

Drawing from a deep repertoire of classic film music (including music from Jacques Tati and Hitchock films, 30's Chinese musicals, and much more), GARY LUCAS CINEFANTASTIQUE is now being offered both as a stand-alone or in tandem with one of Gary Lucas' live music/silent film projects.

Gary Lucas made the New York City premiere of the project at the Gershwin Hotel NYC in February 2010.
