Gary Lucas jams with Patti Smith

Gary Lucas was the unexpected guest of Patti Smith on Sunday, November 23rd, at a tribute to the late rock writer Robert Palmer (who gave Gary's second album, "Gods and Monsters," four stars in Rolling Stone).

At the tribute, which was held at Tramps in New York City, Gary opened the event with his solo guitar piece, "Hurly Burly Coming Down." Then the Kropotkins, Dave Soldier's band featuring Moe Tucker (whose drummer is none other than Jonathan Kane of Gods and Monsters!) played a few songs.

Later in the show, Patti, Lenny Kaye and Oliver Ray got up to play, and Patti called Gary up from the audience to join them on their last number. Gary says he was honored!
