Gary Plays with Joan Osborne Again/Rocks Europe Solo One More Time
Gary was just in the studio under the aegis of ace producer Rick Chertoff
(Joan Osborne, Hooters, Cyndi Lauper) contributing electric slide guitar
to a new cover version of blues great Etta James' classic "At Last", sung now by Joan Osborne. It's the first time the two have worked together
since her multiplatinum "Relish" album.
Gary says the track features a sterling vocal by Joan, a lush string
arrangement by Ralph Shuckett, and soulfull keyboards by Hooters member
Rob Hyman. "At Last" is earmarked as the end title theme music for an
upcoming Disney film, directed by Garry Marshall and starring Diane
Keaton about 2 sisters, one afflicted with mental illness. The film should be released early next year. Gary says the track features
some of his best slide work ever.
The next day Gary flew to Germany and
was rocking several hundred students at Halle's Moritzbastei University
in the old castle Turm. This was the start of a month long European tour
during October which took Gary solo throughout Germany, Austria and
Slovenia (part of the former Yugoslavia), winding up with a stellar
concert in the big room of Amsterdam's famed Paradiso venue which
featured a guest spot from French pop star Elli Medeiros. Gary was then
invited to perform solo acoustic before a listening audience of 50,000 on
the Dutch National Radio VPRO.
