Gary Doffs his Hat for People for The American Way

Gary just donated the battered purple and black hat he wore extensively during his tours in the summer of 2003 in Hawaii and Russia for People for the American Way's upcoming fundraising auction (see details below on this worthy cause and organization). You can see several photos of Gary in action with this hat in the Pictures section , such as here, here and here. And you can bid on purchasing his hat and contributing to a very worthy cause beginning Dec. 4th.

People For the American Way is a non-profit, non-partisan organization. It was co-founded 24 years ago by television producer Norman Lear in response to the growing power of the religious right wing and the threat it posed to the individual liberties and freedoms we cherish as Americans: the right to privacy, reproductive choice, civil liberties and freedom of speech and expression.

For the past three years, People For the American Way's Western Regional Office has conducted our annual Auction for the American Way, where the public bids on one-of-a-kind autographed pieces of celebrity memorabilia and "experiences". The auction, spanning the world of music, television, fine art, film, and literature, raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to support People For the American Way's critical work in defending democracy.

Some of the exciting items People for the American Way have received so far this year include:

* Private lunches with actor Alec Baldwin and Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth

* A guitar smashed onstage by Trent Reznor, signed by him and all the members of Nine Inch Nails.

* A personal steam room session with the Farrelly brothers (writers/directors of Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber) at Burke Williams Spa in Santa Monica

* A personal tour of Wisteria Lane led by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry

* A signed, limited edition etching by Frank Gehry

The auction will go up on eBay December 4th and will close on December 11th. Check their website www.pfaw.org where a link to the auction page will be appear, beginning the end of November.
