Gary to Play Royal Festival Hall Solo—Again/Gary's Fall Blitz
Following up on his cameo appearances there during Hal Willner's Harry
Smith Project show for Nick Cave's Meltdown Festival in July 1999, Gary
returns to the plush environs of 2000-seater Royal Festival Hall in
London for a full-on solo set on Friday Oct. 12th, opening for legendary
German psychedelic rockers Faust (one of Gary's favorites—he used to
spin their early Virgin records on his WYBC-FM radio show during his
Yale days in the early 70's).
This is just one highlight in an incredibly
busy fall touring season for Mr.Lucas—others being a solo appearance on
Sept. 9th in Diepenheim Holland at the 2 week long Captain Beefheart
Festival, where he will be joined onstage by old friend and collaborator
Kevin Coyne for an impromptu improvisation; the European debut on Oct.
21st of his new Captain Beefheart tribute band "Fast 'n Bulbous", a 7-piece horn-driven lineup featuring Gary on guitar with arrangements by
the Microscopic Septet's Phillip Johnston, at the Di Nova Musica Festival
in Reggio Emilia, Italy; the European debut in Weimar Germany on Nov.
5th of his new "Edge of Heaven" Chinese project featuring Gary on
acoustic w/Austrian chanteuse Gisburg, to coincide with the upcoming
October release of Gary's new album for French progressive jazz/world
music label Label Bleu entitled "The Edge of Heaven—Gary Lucas plays
Mid-Century Chinese Pop"; and—dates to be confirmed—the European debut
of The Du-Tels live (Gary and Peter Stampfel), whose new album "No
Knowledge of Music Required" just scored a rave review and a photo of the
guys in the new issue of Rolling Stone (the one with Britney Spears on
the cover).
Keep watching the tour section for more dates to be
confirmed.
