Gary Goes to Sundance
"Lalee's Kin—The Legacy of Cotton," a film by Susan Froemke and Debora Dickson
with Albert Maysles, is a documentary about poverty in Mississippi featuring Gary's original score. The film has just been accepted by the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and will
have its premiere there in Park City Utah on January 19th. It will also
screen there on January 21st and 23rd. The film will get its television
debut on HBO sometime in June 2001. The one and a half hour documentary,
directed by Susan Froemke and edited by Deborah Dickson, features Gary's
haunting electric and acoustic blues guitar, with occasional
contributions from Deep Singh on tabla and Anthony Kane (brother of Gods and Monsters drummer Jonathan
Kane) on blues harp.
