Gary Jams With Zappa Acolytes Project Object
On Friday March 24th, Gary tore the roof off the Lion's Den in
Greenwich Village as the extra special guest of Frank Zappa devotees
Project Object, who played an incredible set before 300 stone Zappa
freaks. Gary, no stranger to Zappa or his music (he'd seen the Mothers in
numerous concerts and had met the man himself several times—check out
his infamous encounter in the company of Captain Beefheart in John
French's liner notes to the Revenant Beefheart box "Grow Fins") was
invited to jam onstage after P.O. leader Andre caught his last Gods and
Monsters gig at NYC's Knitting Factory and had declared himself mighty
impressed. Joined by Zappa vet the legendary Ike Willis for "Willie the
Pimp", the boys romped through 5 Zappa favorites including "King Kong",
"Advance Romance", and "Duke of Prunes"—which Gary than reprised in a
duo version on Monday the 27th at the KnitActive Theater "Decompositions"
series with monster saxphonist Jason Candler.
