"RISING SUNS" TOUR OF JAPAN postponed, new dates TBA

In the Fall of 2024, after a hiatus of several years with his longtime band GODS AND MONSTERS, GARY LUCAS decided to put a new lineup together. A lean mean machine, a psychedelic jazz-rock power trio / jam band that would rival any of the classic rock bands and fusion jazz groups in sheer fire power, skill of execution—and most importantly, great songs.

Find GARY LUCAS on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Bluesky, Threads, and here on the web, and check out The Original Gods and Monsters page.

To that end, Gary brought in the BIG WOOD:

Drum monster G CALVIN WESTON (Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, James Blood Ulmer, John Lurie's Lounge Lizards)—one of the best drummers in the world. Check out G Calvin's website, bio, Facebook page, and "For Hire - Drum Dubbing at Soundscape Recording Lab" page.

Rock steady electric bass player ERNIE BROOKS (Modern Lovers, Arthur Russell), who has played with GARY LUCAS & GODS AND MONSTERS for over 25 years.

GARY LUCAS and G CALVIN WESTON blast off into interstellar space and worlds uncharted with their ferocious high energy improvisational attack, while ERNIE BROOKS anchors the whole thing down with his solid, rootsy bass playing.

Combining the best of avant-garde and art-rock...mixing in a little psychedelic folk and blues and free-jazz blowing...with lots and lots of improvisation and jamming—in less than the space of a month, with ecstatic shows at The Colony Woodstock Dec. 12/22/24 and City Winery NYC 1/6/25.

GARY LUCAS & GODS AND MONSTERS thrilled the crowd and generated solid business for the venues.

And they are ready for primetime—as well as the international festival circuit.

You have to see and hear them to believe it!!

Top New York Times film and music critic Glenn Kenny weighs in on the band's City Winery NYC show Monday night Jan. 6th on BlueSky:

"Saw Gary Lucas’ revived Gods and Monsters trio Monday night at @citywinery.bsky.social with new drummer G Calvin Weston — speaking of monsters. The generous sets were all fire! Long may they thunder. Can't wait for the next show."

From longtime music critic Mike Shore on X:

"Re Gary Lucas & Gods and Monsters live version of 'The Stumble'—Further proof for those who need it that Gary's as tasty and authoritative with sweet-stinging classic blues as the wirier twangier Beefheartier stuff some of us may know better...and that the term "guitar master" is not thrown around casually when applied to Gary Lucas."

From renowned music journalist David Fricke (MOJO/Sirius XM Radio):

Gods and Monsters are a power trio reborn. Founding guitarist Gary Lucas, longtime bassist Ernie Brooks and drummer G Calvin Weston bring a combined lifetime in legacy and exploration – Captain Beefheart and Jeff Buckley; the Modern Lovers and James Blood Ulmer – to their psychedelic verve and nuclear improvisation. Three decades after those first gigs at CBGB and the old Knitting Factory, Gods and Monsters still sound like the living late-show spirit of the Fillmore East.
